    Default Slab prices

I'm after a slab for a desktop, and I'm wondering if slabs are normally on sale at the timber and woodworking show in Brisbane. I know they have lots there and a great selection, but I've never really checked out prices.

If they are cheaper at the show, my project can wait until then. If not, I might get looking around now for some good suppliers around Brissie.

(Just for reference, I'm after a piece roughly 1800x900x40, and another 1400x400x30, of a lightish coloured wood. I'll leave the natural edges on.)

So, anyone know what the show prices are like?

I have seen lots of great slabs at previous Brisbane shows at what seem to me to be fair prices. I need to say however that I have not visited other suppliers so cannot say if the prices at the show are cheaper

    Default Brisbane show

25mm board around $40, wide board may be hard to get, but around $150-200 depending on timber
Mal at Boutique Timbers will be there, you can contact him through his web site to see what he has available.

I rang a few places today and got rough quotes from $600 to $1000 for the raw slab of the size I mentioned. Sounded a bit rich to me.
